Radioddity HF-010: The New Benchmark for Portable HF Antennas?

--By F5SVP

With the release of the Radioddity HF-010, the well-known brand among ham radio operators is making a strong impact on the portable HF antenna segment. Designed for field activities such as POTA, SOTA, radio camping, or emergency operations, this new multiband vertical promises simplicity, robustness, and performance. But does it really live up to its promises? Let’s take a detailed look.

An Antenna Designed for the Field

The HF-010 clearly follows the current trend: offering an antenna that is portable, quick to deploy, and versatile. From the moment you unbox it, it’s clear Radioddity is targeting field enthusiasts:

  • Quick installation (takes only a few minutes).
  • Complete ready-to-use kit.
  • Easy transport with a dedicated bag.

The antenna measures approximately 5.1 m when deployed while remaining compact when folded, making it an excellent compromise for outdoor activations.

Full HF Coverage: From 80m to 6m

One of the major strengths of the HF-010 is its extended multiband coverage:
80m to 6m (3.5MHz to 50 MHz), 10 HF bands covered.

It accepts up to:
100 W in CW / 150 W in SSB (PEP)
This means it works equally well with a small QRP rig or a standard 100 W transceiver.

A Smart and Fast Tuning System

Radioddity has improved a crucial point here: antenna tuning.

It uses two complementary systems:

  • Dedicated 80m coil (fixed).
  • Sliding coil for bands from 60m to 17m.

The principle is simple: Adjust the coil position, mark the locations using the provided measuring tape, and quickly find your settings again.

Result: Fast tuning with a SWR generally ≤ 1.5:1.

A True "All-Terrain" Antenna

The HF-010 is designed to adapt to any situation with three installation modes:
Ground spike for natural terrain,
Tripod with water bag for hard surfaces,
Vehicle mount (optional) for mobile use.

Construction: Robust and Durable

Radioddity made an interesting choice by using 304 stainless steel connectors. Benefits include corrosion resistance and increased strength. The coil system is also protected against dust and moisture, a real plus for field use.

Complete Ready-to-Use Kit

The box includes everything needed: Segmented antenna, tuning coil, 3 radials (~4.8 m), coaxial cable (~10 m), tripod with ballast bag, ground spike, and a carrying bag.

No additional purchases required.

Expected Field Performance

Strengths: Very good performance from 20m to 6m; ideal for QRP and portable use.
Limitations: Lower efficiency on 80m (due to physics); requires practice for optimal tuning.

Overall, for a portable antenna, it remains highly efficient and versatile..

HF-010 vs. HF-009: A Real Evolution?

Compared to the HF-009, notable improvements include the added 80-meter range, more robust stainless steel construction, better stability, and a more complete kit.

Clearly, the HF-010 addresses the limitations of the previous generation.

My Opinion

The Radioddity HF-010 checks almost all the boxes: Full multiband, Fast installation, All-in-one kit, Field-ready.

It's a typical ideal antenna for: POTA / SOTA activations, radio holidays, emergency stations, and beginners in portable HF.

Conclusion

The Radioddity HF-010 stands out as a modern, robust, and ultra-versatile solution for portable HF traffic. It’s not a "miracle" antenna (none are! ), but it is clearly one of the best current options for hassle-free portable HF.
